Abstract

The sales of popular and scientific books on tropical pastures by the Tropical Grassland Society have been analysed. The data show that. the number of books sold increased steadily during 1984–86, but levelled out in 1987. The research and research-support category of buyer has been the major customer, but other purchasers included farmers, farm advisors and commercial companies. Eighty-four percent of books sold were by mail order, and 16% were sold at conferences and field days. The publication activity has been self-funding from sales and has achieved the major objective of a wider dissemination of information on tropical pastures.
