Abstract

Pythium irregulare Buisman was isolated from Stylosanthes guianensis seedlings showing symptoms of post-emergence damping-off in the greenhouse. Stylosanthes guinanenis seedlings inoculated with P. irregulare under aseptic conditions displayed tissue-browning, loss of turgor and tissue collapse. Seed treated with metalaxyl prior to planting in artificially infested soil had significantly less seedling losses to postemergence damping-off than untreated seed or seed treated with captan.
